Hello everybody, and welcome back to the No Skip Blog! Today we have the pleasure of sharing an exclusive interview from our concert correspondent Sean, with Kill Iconic labels newest signees, Lobby Boxer!
Sean:
“This is Sean O'Donnell again with the No Skip Show here with…”
Zach:
“Zach Fendelman from Lobby Boxer.”
Sean:
“Lobby Boxer, they just co-headlined a show here at the Smiling Moose with Zeta!
Alright, here we go, where are you from Zach?”
Zach:
“So we’re all from St Louis, Missouri. We all grew up there, born and raised”
Sean:
“Okay, cool cool. How would you describe your sound to someone who has never listened to you guys?”
Zach:
“I think we take a lot of elements, like classic elements, of rock music; big anthems, guitar solos, all that stuff that you would kind of imagine a classic rock band doing, but I feel like we kind of funnel it through a lot of newer styles. We love alternative music, we love jazz, we love electronic music, so we kind of try and mush that all into kind of one sort of deal. Each song is different, I feel like we try and do a different style every time and yeah.”
Sean:
“Yeahhh, speaking of different styles, what bands have influenced you over the years?”
Zach:
“So when we first started it, when it was just me and Max, The Fall of Troy was definitely a big influence, Title Fight was a huge influence. Kind of as we've grown, we've absorbed Andrew our bassist into the band, he's huge into The Mars Volta and all of Omars solo projects. And Jack, our other guitarist, he's really into jazz, he was like Pat Metheny and he also loves like 80s music, Phil Collins. And so all of us we each kind of listen to different music but we have our little cross sections and so we kind of try and meet in the middle where kind of our interests intersect.”
Sean:
“Yes, awesome! So you guys played some new songs tonight, where can we find those new songs?”
Zach:
“So yeah this is our new album, it's called Head Shoulders Knuckles Floor, it's available on all streaming services. Bandcamp you can download it and yeah, anywhere you can download and find music on the internet and it's there.”
Sean:
“Okay, so last question is, obviously you guys are from St Louis, Missouri but over last year and now beginning this year you guys have come to Pittsburgh. How is I guess Pittsburgh shown you guys love and then also what are your plans on coming to the east coast more often?”
Zach:
“Yeah, Pittsburgh is quickly becoming one of our favorite cities. The people here are incredibly nice, every time we come we see familiar faces in the crowd. Even just the landscape of the city is gorgeous, we love driving into the city and seeing like all the houses kind of piled up on top of each other. It's different from where we live where it's like a lot of hills and it's kind of sprawling. Yeah, Pittsburgh's awesome and we will be back here in June. I can't say with who yet but it will be announced soon.”
Sean:
“Fingers crossed everybody, big tours always. I believe that's it Zach! This has been a few minutes with Zach from Lobby Boxer, and this is the No Skip Show. Peace out!”
